Hannah Lindell – Speaker 2011

Hannah Lindell is a student attending the international IB-programme in a school in Stockholm. She is 17 years old and lives the life of a typical teenager in Stockholm, doing a lot of schoolwork, hanging out with friends and taking an interest in climate smart shopping. She used to go horse riding two times a week for but has lately been taking a break from that interest.

Hannah and the Lindells are an ordinary family that has been living in an extraordinary project. While attracting interest from around the globe Hannah and her family set out to reduce their CO2-footprint from the Swedish average of about 7 tons per person and year to the in the not to distant future needed one ton.
The figure is not chosen by random but based on a UN Climate Panel Report showing that within 50-60 years one ton per person and year is the amount our planet can cope with without drastic changes to the climate and every day life as we know it. It is quite a challenging reduction that is needed. The question the family explored was how far you can get already today with existing technology and without drastic changes to a modern life style.

Hannah takes a special interest in sharing her unique experiences with other young people since she believes that the most effective way to change the future is through young people who will be the consumers of tomorrow.
